A Resounding YES for Colmore Business District

Businesses in the Colmore Row area have been casting their votes over the past few weeks on the proposal to establish a Business Improvement District in the area.  Of all those who voted, a resounding 90.1% were in favour of the BID being formed.  The BID – sponsored by Birmingham Forward, Birmingham Future and the Birmingham City Centre Partnership – will form an independent company on 1st April this year.  For further information on its pledges, please click here.

Rallying for the Auto Sector

West Midlands Auto Industry Summit

Urban project managed the Auto Industry Summit, which took place on Tuesday 3rd January at the ICC Birmingham, as part of Birmingham Post campaign to save Jaguar Land Rover.  Sponsored by Marketing Birmingham, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce & Industry, BPM Media, Birmingham City Council and the NEC Group, near;y 200 delegates attended the event despite snowy weather conditions.  A ten point communique was created and handed to Lord Mandelson on Thursday 5th February as a result of lively discussions at the Summit.  For further information, please click here.

Birmingham International Airport extension plans approved (for the most parts)

A unanimous decision was made at the Solihull Council Planning Sub-Committee meeting held on 15th December approving the proposed Birmingham International Airport runway extension plans.  The expanded airport capacity is essential for the economic growth of our region – in particular reaching growing markets in the US, Indian sub-continent and Pacific Rim.  The decision is subject to a detailed list of environmental-based conditions and obligations which must meet the Committee’s approval in January.  To view the full report, please click here.

Prospectus for Colmore BID launched

Led by Birmingham Forward and hosted at the PwC headquarters in Cornwall Court, representatives of firms that will be eligible to vote in the Colmore Business District business improvement district ballot during January and February attended the launch of the Prospectus on Wednesday 3rd December.  If successful, the BID will deliver £3.4M investment into improving the City’s main commercial quarter.  For more information, please click here.

Advancing Colmore BID

The City’s main professional and financial services district will soon be given a chance to vote on whether the area should become a Business Improvement District.  The Colmore BID ballot papers are set to go out in January 2009 and announcement of the result will be made the following month.  During this time, Urban will continue to provide strategic pr and communication support to Birmingham Forward and Future, one of the driving forces behind the BID to improve the City’s business district.  For more information, please click here.

Admin Court in Birmingham moves forward

Birmingham Forward, one of the major campaigners for establishing an Administrative Court in the City, have been holding a series of seminars to highlight to the legal and business communities the range of opportunities afforded by this addition to the regional justice system.  Urban has been providing strategic pr and communication support to the High Court Justice Project Group.  The next seminar will be held on Thursday 4th December and for more information, please click here.
