Why the Creative Industries Matter to Birmingham

The Creative Birmingham Partnership Board – which brings together public agencies supporting the creative industries and private sector representatives – commissioned its second baseline study of Birmingham’s creative economy in May. The report, undertaken by BOP Consulting and funded by Birmingham City Council, is close to completion.

Lunar Society Low Carbon Lecture pulls in 150

Since being asked to help raise the profile for the Annual Boulton and Watt Lecture, Urban has assisted the Lunar Society in generating interest for the Lecture and, combined with ongoing efforts by Aston University, over 150 delegates are now expected to attend the Sustainable Technologies Lecture given by Aston University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Julia King. Boulton and Watt Commemorative Lecture to be delivered by Professor Julia King CBE FREng, Vice Chancellor, Aston University

2009 marks the Bicentenary of the death of one of the world’s most innovative early industrialists, Matthew Boulton. This year’s Lunar Society Annual Lecture, given in the name of Boulton and his fellow pioneer, James Watt, therefore has particular significance.

Birmingham Hippodrome Rocks On!

Due to soaring demands, Birmingham Hippodrome has announced an extra week of performance for We Will Rock You, the hit Musical written by comedia and author Ben Elton.  The show kicked off with a bang on 2nd July as theatre goers were treated to a surprise performance from Queen Musicians Brian May and Roger Taylor.  To see photos of the evening, please click here.

Name that Bar

A competition has been launched this month in conjunction with Birmingham Forward and Birmingham Future inviting the city’s professionals to name a new bar set to open in Birmingham’s newest office building – Eleven Brindleyplace.  The winner will be announced at Birmingham Future’s AGM on  30th July.  For further information, please click here.
